The white travertines formed over millennia by calcium-rich hot springs, together with the ancient city of Hierapolis above them, are on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Nearby Aphrodisias is known for its Temple of Aphrodite and its school of marble sculpture, while the iron-rich red springs of Karahayit are another stop in the region.
